About Us

The Friars Point Economic Development Association was established in 2023 with the intention of improving the overall quality of life within the City of Friars Point.  Our aim is to work with the Friars Point City Council to create an infrastructure that will attract businesses to our City.  To establish job training programs in order to decrease the percentage of Friars Point residents living below the poverty level.  To bring a medical facility with licensed medical personnel into the City.  To increase police protection within the City.  To establish a library so that our senior citizens and children can have a quiet place to read a book or explore the the world beyond Friars Point.

OUR APPROACH

Recognizing the many economic needs in Friars Point, we organized the Friars Point Economic Development Association to identify and formulate the necessary direction to improve our historic city.

We reached out to businesses and organizations with a reputation for assisting communities rebuild their economy and improve living conditions.

Our search resulted in finding Omicron Phi Foundation and MBJ Enterprises.  These organizations have provided the expert knowledge and directions to make  this project a success.  We say "Thank You" to these GREAT organizations for their humanitarian and community improvement efforts.

Our Mission

The Friars Point Economic Development Association has a priority of restoring the historical buildings in downtown Friars Point on Second Street.  These buildings shaped the the overall progress of our city and each building has a story to tell.

There are five (5) buildings in need of restoring that require extensive renovations:  Hirsberg's Drug Store, The Ice House, The North Delta Museum, St. Celia Catholic Church and the Church of the Living God.

Our Vision

Friars Point is ready to reclaim its place in the history of Mississippi and in the history of America.  Friars Point is the only city in Coahoma County, Mississippi with direct access to the Mississippi River.  With the efforts of the Friars Point Economic Development Association, the Mississippi River at Friars Point will again provide services and revenue to the citizens of Friars Point.
